From a young age, my mother, who grew up in an environment of remarkable artists, musicians and other luminaries, developed the habit of getting their autographs whenever she possibly could. During a span of almost 60 years, her autograph books have been in the hands of some of the best known names in the world of Indian (and sometimes foreign) art, music, culture and education. During a recent trip to Kolkata, we photographed each of the pages from her first and oldest autograph book (dating back to 1958!). Here is the first volume of photos from the autographs collection of my mother, Bharati Baksi.
